Curtis Worker Nia Schexnider Passes On

Nia Iris Schexnider, a Food Service Worker at Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) passed on Sunday October 4, on the cusp of her thirtieth birthday. Schexnider was a HINU alumnus who graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Natural Sciences in 2012. Schexnider loved music and was always listening to something at Curtis, she loved plants and grew strawberries and irises (her namesake) in front of Curtis Hall, and she also loved people, always bringing a smile to students’ faces.

For those who wish to celebrate the life of Schexnider, a balloon release is schedule for Sunday, October 11 at 6 PM  CST at Edgewood, Lawrence. The loss of Schexnider will be truly felt by the community. Any updates on funerary information will come later.


Update: A graveside service will be held for Schexnider October 10th at the Allen Family Cemetery in Cushing, Oklahoma. Flowers may be sent to Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma.

    I’ll remember her when I come by Curtis in the future.
