Students had less than 24 hours to read an urgent notice sent out by Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) announcing the migration of HINU’s email server and providing new instructions for students following the migration. The notice advised students to “… print these instructions [out] or just download to your device for access later,” alluding to the fact many may not receive these instructions if they did not access their email prior to the migration.
While HINU chalked this up as “unforeseen circumstances”, Microsoft had publicly announced the end of support for the Microsoft Exchange server back in September 2019 giving HINU over a year to migrate. HINU created a contract to begin the migration on August 26th estimating the cost at $34,130. Following the migration, students now have access to the full Microsoft Office 365 Suite to use on up to 5 devices.
Email Access in Browser
Students can access their student email in the Outlook web app at www.outlook.office365.com. Students will use their full email address (email@example.com) and their current email password to login.
Web app versions of other Office 365 programs may be accessed as well using student credentials.
Students on mobile devices may access their email though the Outlook app available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Login information for the app will require the student’s full email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) and current password to login. Note: current attempts using a third party email app have resulted in a message that access is blocked.
Other Office 365 apps like Word and PowerPoint may be downloaded and used with student credentials.
Desktop Office 2019 programs may be downloaded from www.office.com. Student credentials are their HINU email address (email@example.com) and current password. Downloads requires no other version Office be currently installed. Download Outlook to access student emails.
As always, the HINU IT Office may be reached through email at IThelpdesk@haskell.edu or you leave voicemail at 785-830-2712 to be contacted by phone.
