Coming to Coffin Complex on December 1, 2012 for a match-up before the semester’s ending was the Haskell Indians Men’s and Women’s basketball with both teams having a bit of hard luck coming into the contest 3-6 records after falling in tough, close match-up during November. But December 1st was a different matter as fans packed into Coffin for an inter-tribal showdown against Oglala Lokata College.
The opening women’s game was a quick work as the Haskell Ladies had a clear edge in the contest over the Bravehearts leading the game at halftime 44-24, and rode on to a 89-49 victory in the contest with Jenine coriz , Senior Echo Keo as well as Tahnee Stand, Courtney Little Axe and Jennifer Salabiye in the match-up.
Next up on the night was the Men’s team and HEad Coach Chad Kills Crow had all Lakota members of the squad starting in the match-up against Oglala Lakota. The Bravehearts made off with a slight edge in the beginning of the game for close to the first ten minutes before Haskell took over the lead and kept it close but distant going into the half 36-31. Second half Haskell built up a commanding lead as midway through the games the Fighting Indians took a lead of more than 21 points going on to wi the match 94-64. The Haskell Women will have two more home games before the semester’s end against William Woods University and Stephans College on December 7 & 8, the Men’s next home contest will be after the fall semester ends on December 15, against the University of Saint Mary’s.
