The Haskell Softball season started last this month and so far the Indians has their work cut out for them as the MCAC Preseason Poll has Haskell at 6th in the Conference. The ladies began their season dropping a hard double-header on the road at Peru State College; losing the first game 0-4, then 1-4 in the second.
The girl’s second outing was on a blustery Tuesday afternoon against Tabor College who was coming off a win in their last outing. Unfortunately during the first game, the second inning was not the friendliest one for Haskell as 8 of Tabor’s 13 runs came from that period alone. Haskell’s Alexis Martinez and Miranda Cobell were able to hit off two runs each for the Indians to finish the first game at 2-13.
The second game Tabor was having trouble in getting players to cross the home plate in the early innings before doubling their numbers in 5th. Already having a runner on 1st, Haskell’s Samantha Robertson cracked the evenings only Home-Run to give the Indians a 2-8 standing before the Bluejays would tack on a another to make the final score 2-10. The Indian’s next home games will be a three day series against Benedictine College, Sterling College and Crowley’s Ridge on March 11, 12, 13 with one more on March 27, against University of Saint Mary; first pitch set to begin at 2:00 pm.
